A Soldier's Thoughts

Not Afraid As I sit at my window and look out at the sky I think about my comrades who are not afraid to die! They are over in distant countrys fighting for freedom, liberty, as well as a flag older then New York City and they are not afraid to die! They are trained to defend and kill to serve and protect the constitution in the water or on a hill and they are not afraid to die! They are aunts, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, uncles, and dads this country has given the finest it had because they were not afraid to die! I have family, I have friends yet I leave home so i may defend the things that many have already paid their price and I am not afraid to die Jonathan Lee Baker I am an American Soldier. I am a Warrior and a member of a team. I serve the people of the United States and live the army values. I will always place the mission first. I will never accept defeat. I will never quit. I will never leave a fallen comrade. I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in my warrior task and drills. I always maintain my arms, my equipment, and myself. I am an expert and I am a professional. I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy the enemies of the United States of America in close combat. I am a guardian of freedom and the american way of life. I AM AN AMERICAN SOLDIER!

I am posting this here for Jon.. He left Monday 1-03-05.. He is in the middle of his deployment process and within the next few weeks will end up in Afganistan.. Thank you Steve and Bravenet for chosing his journal as the JOTW..

my name is Jon (A.K.A. Rice crispy) I am 20 years old and in the army reserves. I am in afghanistan until sometime in february then i am back home to my family and friends whom i miss very much. I love the military life and would not trade it for the world! I have found it to put a damper on my relationships before, BUT now i have a girlfriend named Linda that is staying by my side and she loves me very much!!
